Edmonton Men Step Up for Kids

On May 1, 2013, Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters launched its 3rd 100 Men 100 Days campaign to encourage men to volunteer as mentors to boys in our community. With nearly 600 boys waiting for a Big Brother, many of whom will wait up to 3 years, the need for male mentors is higher than ever.

For the first time since its inception 100 Men 100 Days has achieved its goal, and then some. With the campaign ending today, we have FB Profilereceived 114 new applications from men who have made the important decision to share their time, experience and FUN with a child.

“We couldn’t be more pleased and proud of the outpouring of support for the children and youth of our community,” says Liz O’Neill, Executive Director of BGCBigs. “We see the difference men and women alike can make in a child’s life and know the outcomes are life-changing for both the kids and volunteers. We are so grateful to our community for walking beside us in supporting kids and families.”

This important work could not be done without the support of our community. Edmonton businesses, media, government leaders and private citizens came forward to ensure the message is being delivered that mentoring makes a difference. Although the 100 Men 100 Days campaign is nearly over, the need continues. Please consider becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister.
